First steps towards EMOTION REGULATION.
One of the first steps in helping our kids with emotion regulation is VALIDATION. Even when we don´t agree, feelings are feelings and we can´t erase them. It´s like me telling you you can´t dislike cauliflower or any other food you dislike. If I tried to do that, you'd think I'm nuts. Same thing with feelings. Feelings are feelings. We have to allow them, listen to them, understand them and we don't necessarily need to agree with them. Remember that understanding is different from agreeing and validation is the one of the first steps to helping our kids self regulate.
